Julie’s passion for philanthropy began early in her career when she worked with various nonprofit organizations, gaining firsthand experience in fundraising, program development, and donor relations. Recognizing the need for a more personalized approach to family philanthropy, she founded JH Philanthropy in 2019 to offer bespoke advisory services that align with each family’s unique values and goals.
Under Julie’s leadership, JH Philanthropy has grown into a respected name in the industry, known for its commitment to nonprofit-centered philanthropy, ability to navigate complex family and board dynamics, and centering joy and impact through philanthropy. Julie’s expertise lies in creating customized giving plans, facilitating family governance and next-generation engagement, leadership development, and providing ongoing support to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of philanthropic efforts.
Before founding JH Philanthropy, Julie Hoffmann served as CEO of New Coast Foundation, where she maximized philanthropic investments to address poverty in Chicago. She was also a founding Managing Director and Head of Advancement at A Better Chicago, tripling the organization’s revenue in four years and launching a strategic plan to boost college graduation rates.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and Spanish from Vanderbilt University and an MBA in international management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management. Julie is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago and the National Center for Family Philanthropy and serves on several boards, including Hope Chicago, Noble Schools, and HOPE Toledo.
